Here are a few of the other interesting animals that we are raising. Some of these have very specific purposes and some are just for fun!

This is Happy
Jack. He is a miniature donkey. Donkeys are great animals
because they love attention and are very affectionate. They can also
be a little jealous if you don't give them the amount of attention that
they think that they need. Their bray (the noise they make when they
want to get your attention) is very loud and quite funny when they really
get wound up!
Jack's purpose for us is to pull a cart that can carry us, the kids, or even feed sacks to some of the other animals. We are still working on his training for this. "The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them.
They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and
Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the
road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the
road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed
shouted. |

This is Amos. Amos is a very loving and docile little pony.
Although it appears that Amos's purpose is just for fun, he is actually
being used for therapy in this picture. Anna (in the green coat) has
low muscle tone. Riding on this pony forces her to use muscles that
she needs to strengthen. The pony makes this a fun exercise for her
that she really enjoys. Anna loves to put her face down in Amos's
thick mane while she is riding! (great sensory integration!)
"His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love." -Psalm 147:10-11 |

This is one of
our egg-laying hens. We have several dozen hens that lay brown,
green, pink, blue and white eggs. This particular hen was very
"broody". This means that she liked to just sit on top of
the eggs after they were laid. After a fertilized egg is laid, it
will hatch in 21 days if it is kept in an incubator or if you have a
"broody" hen that feels the calling to sit on the eggs almost
the entire time. After the chicks hatch, the momma will stay with
them and protect them until they are almost adults. It is quite a
sight to see the hen squat down with her wings out slightly so that she
can literally cover up these little chicks for protection when they are
little.
Luke 13:34 - "I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings" - Jesus Christ |
